A Familiar Scene
I took a similar picture to this almost 2 years ago. But funny, this time the focus has changed.

Gulls In Sequence
My family and I went on vacation up to Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City, Michigan this past week, located right on Lake Huron. Not only does that area have a lot of history, but it also has a lot of spectacular views. Hopefully this vacation will spark my comeback to the photologging world. This was taken at a formerly used lighthouse there.

Waiting
After asking Tricia to hold her pose for a couple minutes (thank you) while I took pictures, I finally got one I was happy with. Tricia agreed it was the best one as well. However, looking at it now, I wish I would have increased the depth of field so that more of the foreground would be in focus, but I guess this will have to do.

Eden & Jade
The ever beautiful Eden and Jade (left to right). This was taken at the first annual Freudenberg Family Holiday Get Together, which went very well. I hadn't seen these two in, I think, almost a year and missed them very much. Past times consisted of chasing them around and of course taking pictures as they excitedly posed. I wondered that if a year later they would be grown out of this and maybe be shy around the camera. No. They were around me all night constantly telling me to "Take a picture!", and of course, I ate it up. Eden here is being silly as she was all night, and Jade provides her classic smile.

Hmm, sorry I haven't posted in a while. Not that I have a huge fan base to upset, but I can amuse myself I suppose. And to those that are fans, I am sorry, and thank you. This picture didn't turn out quite the way I had hoped. I wanted to convey some movement, but maybe not quite this much. I decided to post it though because I thought it was pretty interesting.

Fall-Flavor #3
You may have noticed that my website's background graphics are not showing up. Well I had all the graphics stored on my UofL webspace account and, since I am graduated, it seems they have shut that off. But not to worry, perhaps in a month or so I will have my new website up :-) This website still works fine though, it's just not as pretty.

Lantern
I'm sorry for those of you who were displeased about my lack of posting. I went to an ultimate tournament this weekend, and being so tired, I fell behind. I don't know why I like taking pictures at angles like this, but for some reason, I do. This is yet another decoration back home. Those of you that have been to my house may notice something missing. I took it out because it was distracting, and I wish I would have noticed it when I took the picture and framed it a different way.

Southeast Christian
One night I was driving down Blakenbaker Parkway and there was an awesome sunset behind the beautifully lit Southeast Christian Church. Of course I didn't have my camera. But I vowed to myself to at least take my camera there one night to get some shots of it lit up. This was the night. I really like the illuminated clouds too, although they kinda look evil and this is a church...
On another note, it's driving me crazy because I shoot in RAW format and when I convert to .jpg there is tremendous color loss. If anyone (Adam) knows any ways or tricks to prevent this (if there are any), please let me know.

Grant's Lick Nights #4
If you remember, back in January I attempted to capture the seeming movement of the stars around Polaris, the North Star. During the first attempt, I wasn't exactly sure how long I needed to expose the photograph in order to see movement, and with my old camera, I had to take multiple shots and combine them in order to do that. At this point, I still have to do that until I can get a wireless remote for my camera. Now, with previous experience, I took more photos (12 exposures each 30 seconds in length and a total time between the first and last exposures of six and a half minutes). This produced a much more noticeable result. Once I get my wireless remote, I plan on taking fewer photos with exposure times of perhaps a couple minutes each.

Globes
David Lasoski randomly called me up the other night to see if I wanted to take some pictures of the full moon, meaning, he wanted me to take pictures of the moon for him. But I was cool with this. I like random events and taking pictures, so his desire quickly turned into my desire too. Originally he wanted to take pictures of Louisville with the moon behind the city from McAlpine. This didn't work out as planned because of the distance. So we drove back downtown and found a good place to shoot this one at Market and sixth streets.

Warp Speed
This was taken on the Bardstown Road walk last week. Marissa and I came across a wall that was covered in different designs like this. The whole thing remeinded me of a quilt. The "warp speed" effect was accomplished by zooming in while taking the photo at a relatively slow shutter speed.

Monochrome #1
I took this yesterday when Marissa was taking pictures of the bench for one of her photography classes. After she finished and we were walking out of the woods, Charlie decided to hop up on the bench and, well I guess pose for us or something. The first picture I took didn't capture the right colors at all, so I quickly changed some white balance settings and took some more. I was really fortunate that the sun decided to come out from behind the many clouds at that instant.

Glamour
Marissa and I decided to go on a little excursion down Bardstown Road to play with our new cameras, and ended up taking a gig of photos. I was shooting in RAW format though and each file takes up around 8MB. If you think that's a lot, Marissa's Nikon produces 15MB files. Some of the pictures we took were though shop windows. I quickly found out that I need a circular polarizer. But anyway... We came across this beauty salon. It took me a while to figure out how to compose this, and I still not quite happy with it, but here it is...

Brea-Anne and Gerry at East Fork Lake, Ohio.
I ended up rotating (and thus cropping) this slightly but overall I'm pretty pleased with the composition. However, I'm not really sure what else I could have done compositionally. If anyone has any suggestions that would be cool. Their expression definitely helps bring this picture to life, and the jet ski in the background is a nice little treat because I didn't see it when I took the picture.

See There? #1
Well, I finally did it. I bought myself the new Canon EOS 30D. The first weekend it was mine it got to go on a little camping trip to East Fork Lake in Ohio. I was a little iffy about taking it with me to battle the elements, but I decided that I bought it to take pictures, so why not? It was really funny because my paranoia about my camera getting hurt or stolen meant that it went everywhere I went, including my sleeping bag at night.
Hopefully soon I'll have a new website launched to accompany the new camera. But don't expect my picture taking ability to improve just because of the new camera and the website. At least not right away :-).
Alright to the photo. Here we have Ryan (blue) showing Matthew(grey) where a huge bag worm nest was way up in the top of a tree.

Reflected #1
Right now, I'm really searching for some things that are even remotely suitable for posting due to the fact that my camera is broken. This isn't something I'm really proud of, but it's better than some of my other stuff. It kinda reminds me of something Sam would post. I took this one day when Adam let me borrow his camera.

Graduate
Here stands Adam, unknowingly posing for me as I secretly hold the camera down at my waist. I'm really happy with the way this was framed because I wasn't sure what I would get by holding the camera down low. I like how the flash brought out the textures of the robe, however, I don't like the shadow it cast on the ceiling.

Debate
This was at an "Intelligent Design" debate last semester in which Adam also participated. I forget her name, but she was on the side against the teaching of ID in the classroom. Adam wanted me to take pictures, and I wanted to take pictures with Adam's camera, so that worked out just nicely. Um, post processing...minor brightening and minor rotation.

Hydrate
I shot this when I randomly decided to go down to the waterfront to take pictures...and by chance, this race was going on. This was the same day that I took this and this. This is another one of those pretty much impossible panning shots. But I'm pretty happy with this one. Because it was the middle of the day and it was very bright outside, I had to set my camera to ISO 50 and exposure value of +2 to decrease the shutter speed. Post processing included some slight cropping (because my camera only has a 3x zoom), and an "auto levels" adjustment to correct the overexposure (which always seems to do a nice job in these situations).

Summer Day
Instead of just posting pictures like I normally do, I think from now on I'm going to actually go into detail about my posts. This will likely include the occasion of the picture, reason for taking it, and some post processing that was involved.
...
This photo was taken back home in Northern Kentucky. It was a gorgeous day so I decided to take my camera outside. I walked down the driveway and I looked over at the front yard and first noticed the lines in the grass from the lawnmower. I was also rather amazed by the vivid green and blue colors. The first photo I took didn't quite capture these colors correctly. It looked a bit overexposed. So I adjusted the exposure down to, I believe, -1. That seemed to do the job. No post processing was done except for resizing.

Color Cast

I know it's not very original, but I could't decide originally which one to post, so I decided to post both. I'll try to answer Michael's question from the previous post. This is known as an HDR (high dynamic range) image. I took a couple pictures at different exposures to help capture the different range of shadows and colors cast on the blinds. I used software called photomatix to help combine the photos. The reason for this is to try to reproduce more realistically what the eye sees. I did this effect once before with this sunset picture only I used photoshop to blend the three photos together.

Old Louisville Sunset
This picture is actually three photos of the same scene exposed at different shutter speeds (1/200sec, 1/50sec, 1/13sec) and combined into one picture using photoshop masking. The reason for doing this is because of the difference in lighting between the background(sunset) and the foreground(building). The 1/200sec exposure was used to capture the sunset, but in doing this the building is underexposed. The 1/13sec exposure was used to capture the building, but in doing this the sky is overexposed. And finally the 1/50sec exposure was there for blending purposes. The final result is this, something that looks more like what you can see with your eye.

Warehouse Fire
Late breaking news interrupted the UConn - Albany NCAA tournament game informing me that there was a warehouse fire at 11th and Kentucky streets. A bit skeptical, I decided to see for myself...I walked out to the deck of my third story apartment and, sure enough, there was smoke stretching across the Louisville skyline. I decided to take a few photos to make a panoramic shot. There was not a lot of thought put in to this, but here it is...

Sky Dance
This is a composit of 4 photographs shot at 15 second exposures. However, the total elapsed time between the first and last shot is about 3 minutes. The maximum exposure time for my camera is 15 seconds so I had to take several shots to start seeing any kind of movement. I wanted to see the circular path the stars make as they seemingly rotate around the north star. It looks like I will have to take a lot more pictures to get a better result though. The north star would be behind the trees on the left hand side. I'm not sure exactly if it's in view or just out of view, but it's close. You can kinda see how the paths are shorter as you move closer the north star and longer as you move radially outward.
